Reflecting changes in their life-style, the family realized they no longer needed a large house, but wanted to stay in the neighborhood, near friends and community activities. They turned to Studio 5 to design their new house, building on the creative solution offered by them in their previous house.

The design goal was to create a warm, cozy cottage with open spaces suitable for large gatherings as well as intimate dinners with family and friends.

Materials were selected for warmth and ease of maintenance. Windows were large and plentiful to flood the interior of the house with natural light and vistas of the woods and gardens. The interior plan featured large, open spaces flowing from space to space to invite social interaction, while the upstairs spaces ensured privacy and featured intimate spaces for reading and sitting.
